Claire's Story

26 years ago, it was a normal day, well normal for someone dying of liver failure, sitting on the settee watching television, sleeping and feeling awful but at least I would be alive the next day, unlike my beautiful liver donor! Today I think of them and their wonderful family for allowing me to, not only have a life, but to allow me to have a wonderful, full life! Prior to my liver transplant, I was worried my two year old nephew Christian, would forget me, well he is now Dr Christian Porter, working in Mathematical Research at Imperial College, London! He has a wonderful sister, Jessica, and brother , Matthew, as well as young cousins, Freya and Jude, so I have to stick around to see them grow up as well!

Life isn't always easy, but it is so much better than the alternative and I give God Thanks for every day I have on this earth. Many have described me as "a walking miracle" and if it weren't for the prayers and kindness of family and friends I wouldn't be here, so Thank you to you all! Also Thanks to the medics, both surgeons and physicians, as well as all allied health professionals who have cared for me over the years, I am so grateful to each and everyone of you!

Donors and their families are true heroes, please make the decision that you would like to join this elite group if you were in the position to donate, and talk to your next of kin to let them know your wishes!

Don't take your organs to heaven, God knows we need them here!

Thank you!
